Maldives and US commence joint military exercise

Malé, Maldives – Dubbed the “Tempest Wind 2022”, Maldives and the United States of America have commenced a joint counter terrorism exercise.

The exercise, which began on 7th August, is currently underway in the Central and Malé area of Maldives as categorised by the Maldives Defence Force (MNDF), and will continue until the 18th of this month.

According to the Ministry of Defence of Maldives, this exercise will train respective Maldivian and Hawaiian personnel on counter terrorism strategies, as well as focuses on identifying the existing capacities of Maldives and the US in coordinating emergency counter terrorism operations and explores areas of improvement.

This is the 11th such exercise being carried out in collaboration with both countries, and the fourth such exercise to be held in the Maldives.
