Ghafoor appointed as new ambassador to America

Malé, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed as the Ambassador to the United States of America.

The letter of appointment to the new Ambassador was presented at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Thursday morning. 

Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed served in senior positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Ambassador at Large; Foreign Secretary; Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations; Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Office in Geneva; and other senior positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed attained a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA, and completed a Postgraduate Programme in Diplomacy, Practice, Procedures, and Dynamics in the United Kingdom.
