Malé, Maldives – Security forces have completed an operation in Maafushi prison on suspicion of facilitating terrorism and scams.
The operation, which began Tuesday night, ended early yesterday. No agency has yet commented on the items found in the operation.
The operation involved the Maldives National Defense Force, Maldives Police and the Correctional Service.
Police said on Tuesday night that the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has requested the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to conduct a search of the prison following reports of scams and acts facilitating terrorism.
The Correctional Service also commented that the operation was launched following a tip-off that prohibited items were being smuggled into the prison.
