Addu City, Maldives – MDP presidential primary candidate Mohammed Nasheed has said that people of Maldives know only one thing to do after 12am and allocating land is not one of them.

Criticising Addu City Council for opening for 500 plots of land for residential purposes last night past midnight, Nasheed said the land is announced at night on the occasion of every election but the land is still under the sea.

Maldives is a middle income country where education up to grade 10 is compulsory, such things are a humiliation to the people, Nasheed said. The people know only one thing to do after 12am and allocating land is not one of them, he said.

Nasheed said there are things that need to be done even if it is open at night. They include opening Gan International Airport and bringing in foreign aircrafts, opening resorts and increasing job opportunities in Addu City and opening guesthouses, adding value to fish products and making ice available are the right things to do during the night, he said.

“There are so many things to do at night, but I think it’s very unethical to try to announce for something at night that doesn’t even exist,” Nasheed said.

The opportunity to apply for 500 plots of land in three wards of Addu City has been opened last night. The council has opened the opportunity for land in Feydhoo, Meedhoo and Hulhudhoo.
