Malé, Maldives – The Maldivian Democratic Party’s faction of the Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed Nasheed, has decided to make a manifesto on how to work together with the Jumhoory Party (JP).
After the meeting with JP leaders at the request of MDP President Nasheed, JP Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim said they discussed ways to work together.
“We exchanged views on policies and programs that we would bring to the people to achieve the goals of the people if we work together,” he said.
Ameen said everyone’s efforts to come to power are part of the efforts to achieve the people’s needs. Another meeting with Nasheed’s team will be held next week, he said.
Former MDP Chairperson Hassan Latheef, who attended the meeting, said they agreed to work on a manifesto together.
“One of the things we decided to do together is to start working on a manifesto,” Hassan said.
On behalf of Nasheed’s faction, Henveyru West MP Hassan Latheef said while the two parties have decided to work together to make a manifesto, the final word will be given by the leaders of both sides.
Hassan had earlier said he was meeting the JP at Nasheed’s request on behalf of the MDP. However, while the MDP has nominated a presidential candidate, there has been criticism that the work cannot be done like that.
