On Monday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih established the “Villingili Social Service Centre” as part of the Ministry of Gender, Family, and Social Services.

The purpose of this center is to improve social protection efforts in the Malé region by providing temporary protection to those in need and implementing social security plans for residents of Villingili. Additionally, the center will conduct awareness programs.

The President also directed that the social service centers for the elderly, known as “Israhvehinge Ijthimaaee Marukazuthah,” be placed under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Gender, Family, and Social Services.

This was done to enhance the role of the elderly in the community and provide them with social support plans, as well as health programs, sports, and recreational activities that are suitable for them.

The President terminated the operations of “Kudakudhinge Hiyaa,” “Amaan Hiyaa,” and “Thauleemaai Masahkaiy Ungannaidhey Kudakudhinge Marukazu” as other arrangements have been made to continue their work.

These changes were made under the President’s discretionary power under Section 116 (a) of the Maldives Constitution. The directive issued by the President’s Office provides a comprehensive explanation of the rationale for the changes and their potential benefits.
