Earlier last week, the government of United Arab Emirates announced Maldives in the list of countries from which patients tested positive for Covid-19 in the country.

However, Maldives announced on Saturday that it has been confirmed that the individual reported to be Maldivian is in fact, not Maldivian.

Mabrouq Azeez, spokesperson for the national Covid-19 task force of Maldives had initially announced that the individual might not be from the country as the name provided seemed to of eastern European origin and was not registered in the country.

Mabrouq later confirmed the speculation and cleared out the misinformation.

So far, three individuals are being treated for Covid-19 in the Maldives and are all reported to be recovering well.
