Nolhivaranfaru, Vashafaru and Dhidhhoo placed on lockdown

Haa Alifu Atoll, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has placed Vashafaru and Dhidhhoo of Haa Alifu atoll and Nolhivaranfaru of Haa Dhaalu atoll on monitoring status, following crew members of ‘Savaari’ boat of HA. Kelaa testing positive for Covid-19.

Upon testing the crew and those who traveled by the boat, a total of 8 crew members along with an individual who traveled aboard Savaari have tested positive for Covid-19, placing the three island on monitoring status as contact tracing efforts are underway. This has been confirmed by the local councils of all three islands.

Island Council of Vashafaru has reported that the boat had docked on to the island, and that although no one got off from the boat on to the island, several people had gathered to the harbour area to clear out the goods dropped off by the boat onto the island.

The magnitude of this cluster will be knows as officials continue to carry out contact tracing and testing of individuals lined to the boat.
