Action to be taken for storing fuel in residential areas

Male, Maldives – Male’ City Council has warned that action will be taken against any party which stores fuel in residential areas.

This was revealed in an announcement made by the city council, which read that, according to the regulations on possession, storage and utilization of fuel gazetted by the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), on 12th December, 2012, in order to reduce the number of fires in Male’ city, it is prohibited to supply any form of oil fuel to residential areas.

With regards to this, the statement read that anyone in violation of this regulation would have action taken against them, by the city council.

Male’ City has witnessed huge, devastating fire incidents towards the end of last year and during the last few days of August. The fire in H. Thilafushige which took place in late 2019 was one of the biggest and most destructive fires to have taken place in the Maldives in recent time, which claimed one life, and left many families homeless.
