Covid-19: New cases from Dhidhhoo and Kelaa

Haa Alif Atoll, Maldives – Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) has revealed that two new cases of Covid-19 have been identified in HA. Kelaa and HA. Dhidhhoo.

It was revealed by that the individual who tested positive for the virus in Kelaa is a 57 year old male and that the individual who tested positive for the virus in Dhidhhoo is a 22 year old female. Both tested positive after being tested following the completion of a 14 day, travel related quarantine period.

Currently, anyone traveling to the Maldives from abroad, or anyone traveling from an island which has a known community spread – which in this case is only Male’ city – must be quarantined for a period of 14 days and will only be released from quarantine upon getting a negative Covid-19 test result.

At present time, the number of daily cases of Covid-19 is slowly decreasing after the country saw the highest recorded number of cases recently. However, as the cases in the capital, where most of the cases are concentrated in, decreases, the virus is now showing up in various islands and atolls across the country.

The total number of recorded Covid-19 cases in the country is at 8,900, with 25 atolls having active cases of Covid-19.
