Monitoring status lifted from Kulhudhuffushi after 10 days

Kulhudhuffushi, HDh. Atoll – Monitoring status imposed on Kulhudhuffushi City after Covid-19 positive cases were found has been lifter after 10 days.

The positive Covidi-19 case was found on October 17 at 22:35 and since the following day, the island was put under the status of monitoring by Health Protection Agency. During this period a total of 380 random samples have been taken in the island and all have been tested negative.

Heath Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) had put the city on monitoring status over fears of a community spread in the island.

The recent cases found in the city were traced back to a police officer working at Kulhudhuffushi Police Station who came in contact with a team of police officers who had visited Haa Dhaalu atoll from Male’ City. Additional two officers working at the Kulhudhuffushi Police Station were also tested positive and another police officer from Sh. Foakaidhoo also tested positive after coming in to contact with a person from this cluster.

Additionally three foreigners working for the catering service company for the Kulhudhuffushi Police Station and two more officers and four members of one of these police officers also tested positive in a random sampling taken from the people who came in contact with the people working at the police station.

Although the monitoring status has been lifted, HEOC has advised people not to go out unless it is for compulsory needs. In addition to this, people have also been advised to practice physical distancing and to wear masks while out in public areas.
