Male’, Maldives – MP of Maduvvari constituency and former Defence Minister Adam Shareef has said that the doors for importing drugs have increased recently.

While pointing out the 71 kilos of drugs seized in the operation carried out by Maldives Police Service yesterday, MP Shareef said that the government is releasing major drug lords after making deals with them and that this has increased the amount of drugs which are being smuggled in to the country.

“Families and the society as a whole which have been ruined by drugs can only saved by taking firm actions and enforcing the law” MP Shareef said.

MP Shareef’s remarks come after five people who had been arrested with over one kilograms drugs had been released by Criminal Court. They had been released stating that the evidence was insufficient to keep them in remand until the investigation was over.

Recently the Maldives Police Service has carried out major drug busts in the country with over 200 kilograms of drugs confiscated in two major operation carried in Addu City and Hulhumale’.
