Addu City, Maldives – The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to launch an investigation on Maradhoo-Feydhoo courts chief magistrate Ibrahim Nafees Hussain after a disciplinary complaint was submitted to the commission.

In a statement released earlier today, JSC said that the complaint they received on Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Nafees stated that a case submitted to Maradhoo-Feydhoo Magistrate proceeded without allowing the defendant the right to appoint a lawyer.

This is a violation of Article 53 of the Maldivian Constitution which provides every person with the right to appoint legal representatives.

JSC explained that after a complaint was received by the JSC stating that a case where Nafees was managing the hearings proceeded without allowing the defendant to appoint a lawyer, the committee deciding whether the complaint is to be investigated by JSC has affirmed that this complaint is to be looked into by the commission.

JSC also revealed that after it was decided that this issue is to be investigated, a committee for this investigation was also established on the 10th of this month.
