Male’, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has removed L. Gan and Fonadhoo from monitoring status.
Gan and Fonadhoo were placed under monitoring last Saturday after four individuals that traveled to Fonadhoo from the island of G.A. Dhevvadhoo tested positive. A signed notice by the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru, today, stated that there was no further reason to keep the islands under monitoring.
The four cases from Fonadhoo tested positive after they traveled from Dhevvadhoo on December 27. Direct contacts of the four have all tested negative according to Fonadhoo Health Center.
Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) stated that a total of 52 cases were detected in connection with the Dhevvadhoo cluster. 43 were confirmed from the island itself, while other cases were also detected from the islands of G. A. Dhaandhoo, G. A. Villingili, Hulhumale’ in addition to Fonadhoo.
The first case from Dhevvadhoo was tested positive on December 27, however, authorities have stated that it is likely that the virus had spread on the island before that date. Dhevvadhoo is still under monitoring as well as Dhaandhoo and Villingili.
