Male’, Maldives — Member of Parliament for Maradhoo constituency of Addu City, Ibrahim Shareef (Mavota) has stated that no one should complain about tourists not wearing masks as the economy of Maldives will only rise by welcoming tourists into the country.

The statement from Shareef comes while debating about an issue brought into the parliament by the Member of Parliament for Faresmaathoda constituency, Hussain Mohamed Latheef requesting to solve the issue of resort employees being unable to return back to their families.

Latheef noted that he has noticed that several tourists are not adhering to the mandatory face mask rule in Maldives and has also shown concern over the matter that tourists are not mandated to quarantine.

Shareef spoke regarding this and stated that the government would not do anything that would be a distress to the resort employees. However, he noted that the most important factor needed in a country is to raise its economy.

Most important thing to do in a country is raising its economy, then comes the health. Protecting the money of the citizens is the most important things the state must do.

Shareef stated.

With this, Shareef stated that tourists must not be mandated to wear the masks nor should any activity that would destroy the tourism industry must take place in Maldives.
