Addu City, Maldives —Mohamed Shuaau has been sworn in as the Deputy Mayor of Addu City.
Shuaau competed against two other candidates and won the Deputy Mayor seat with eight votes. The candidate to receive the second highest amount of votes was a councilor from Feydhoo, Mohamed Faisal who received this only three votes. The third candidate was Adhaala Rasheed who only received one vote, while one vote was considered invalid.
The new Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar and council were sworn in a ceremony held today at 10:00 at Addu High School.
In the previous three local council elections, MDP has won all seats in the city council resulting in 100% super majority. However, this year, the opposition party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has three seats in the council while another three seats are now occupied by independent candidates.
