Malé, Maldives – The police is currently preparing to send a case of a teen who was blackmailed with photos and given gang rape threats to the Prosecutor General to press charges against the accused.

The victim’s aunt posted on social media exposing the suspect who allegedly threatened and harassed the now 18 year old girl since she was 17 years of age. The suspect in the case is Ibrahim Saif, a bodyboarder from Maldives Bodyboarding Association (MBBA).

The victim’s aunt said that Saif threatened to leak the victim’s pictures, calling and harassing her from different phone numbers. He is also accused of making several fake social media accounts in the victim’s name, sending her pictures to her friends, and sending some of the pictures to members of her family as well. The family said that the victim is deeply traumatized.

In addition to this, the victim’s family released audio clips of her being blackmailed with the photos. In one audio, the victim is also being threatened that she will be taught a lesson by his younger brother and people in his neighborhood if she ever came to Malé.

In a second audio, he also threatens the family saying that he has posted two of the victim’s photos to a group, which over 10,500 people have viewed and that he has 50 more photos in his possession.

The family stated said they reported the case to the police after their attempts to reason with Saif failed. A media official from Maldives Police Service said on Sunday, that a case involving the intimidation and blackmail of a 17-year-old was reported to the police during September last year.

The media official also said the police have collected evidence as well as witnesses in the case, and are at the last stage of the work required to send the case to the Prosecutor General’s Office for charges. They added that necessary measures to ensure the safety of the victim have been taken.

MBBA has taken action against Saif in response to the case, suspending him from all events until the end of the investigation. They have also announced they will take additional action based on the outcome of the investigation. MBBA noted that Saif’s actions will not be condoned by the association and that his actions are independent of the sport and association.
