May Terror Attack: PG seeks public trial

Male’, Maldives – Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem stated today he is working on carrying out the trials related to the terror attack against Current Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed as openly as possible.

PG Shameem stated that he wishes to carry out the trials, that does not include of matters that could endanger the country, as openly as possible. However, he mentioned that only the court has the power to allow it.

While PGO has already prosecuted a 33-year-old individual from Hoarafushi, Haa Alif Atoll, Mohamed Thasleem, Alanaasige, for having played a major role in the terror attack, PGO today raised a total of 12 charges against 4 suspects involved in the terror attack. They are Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed 25, Ali Mujaaz Ahmed 21, Ali Thahumeen Ahmed 32 in addition to Ali Haisham.

PG Shameem said that they have sufficient evidence to prove the charges against the suspects.

On the other hand, PG also stated that after considering the information currently received from the investigation, the PGO has decided to not prosecute Fathih yet. Noting that the investigation is still ongoing, PG Shameem refrained from revealing further details regarding Fathih.
