Addu ex-mayor Abdulla Sodiq appointed as State Minister of National Planning & Infrastructure

Malé, Maldives – The former mayor of Addu City Abdulla Sodiq has been appointed as State Minister for the Ministry of National Planning & Infrastructure on Sunday.

After working at Malé initially, Sodiq is expected to be stationed in Addu City overseeing infrastructure projects undergoing in the southernmost city.

There are currently multiple major infrastructure works happening in Addu City including various projects financed under the USD 800 million line of credit from the EXIM Bank of India. India is financing road development and reclamation projects in Addu city under the ‘Addu City Development Project’ with the projects worth USD 147.1 million. The projects to develop the roads of the city and also the reclamation of 228 hectares of land is set to be completed within 24 months.

Abdulla Sodiq was mayor of Addu City from 2011 to 2021.
