Malé, Maldives – A 59 year old Maldivian woman has been arrested in the southern region for the sexual abuse of a minor. Police confirmed today that the woman has been remanded to custody pending trial.
Police also detailed that the arrest was made by the South Police Division inclusive of Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City and Addu City.
The case was reported to the police on 24 March 2022.
Reports suggest that the suspect who was employed at a southern school assaulted a 6 year old female student. Unconfirmed media reports state that the woman had worked at a local school for 30 years as janitorial staff.
A similar incident occurred in the capital city where a preschooler was sexually assaulted by a female janitorial staff.
