Malé, Maldives – Adhaalath Party representative Maryam Shimaza has won the Malé citys Women’s Development Committee (WDC) presidency.
Two candidates contested in the election following the resignation of former WDC president Fathimath Shifa belonging to MDP. Shimaza was contested by ruling party MDPs Rasheeda Rashaad.
Shimaza won with 9 votes while Rasheeda earned 6 votes in the majority MDP committee. The Malé WDC consists of 12 MDP members, two independent members and one representative of MRM, PPM.
