Police make multiple arrests for a series of violent crimes rocking Malé city

Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Police Service have made multiple arrests yesterday for a series of violent crimes.

Attempted Assault in Maafushi

Police on Saturday arrested two males aged 20 and 21 for attempted assault with a sharp object. While the crime was attempted at K. Maafushi, the two suspects were arrested upon arrival at the capital city Malé.

The two suspects were remanded in custody for 15 days by the Criminal Court.

Gang Violence in Malé this week

Police arrested four men during a large scale operation following multiple incidents of gang violence in Malé and Hulhumalé since Monday.

The four men aged 19, 24, 25, and 26 were arrested in Hulhumalé Phase I on Friday in possession of weapons including knives and substances suspected to be drugs.

The four suspects were also remanded in custody for 15 days by the Criminal Court.

Police have also arrested a minor who has been remanded for 7 days in relation to the gang violence cases.

Police are also searching for seven suspects in connection to the series of gang violence this week. Additional reports are circulating of a suspect attacking a police officer with an axe during one of the raids.
