Malé, Maldives – Following recent leaks of explicit same-sex videos in the Maldives, authorities have terminated a senior official of the National Center for the Holy Quran (NCHQ) and suspended two others, local reports say.

According to local media outlets, the two suspended persons are a local Imam and an officer of Maldives National Defence Force. However, MNDF is said to have denied these claims.

The senior official of NCHQ who was terminated has been identified as Ibrahim Rafiu, commonly known as MDP Raappe. The explicit video which allegedly features Rafiu was leaked today. It has since been reported that he has fled the country

Local media outlets have reported that the President’s Office had terminated Rafiu prior to the video being leaked, and had taken measures against him when the issue was initially raised.

Police are currently investigating the leak of explicit same-sex videos allegedly involving multiple high profile individuals in the country, as well as the alleged leak and blackmail of the individuals seen in the videos.

As of now a few have been arrested in connection with the leaks, including lawyer and younger brother of Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, Nazim Sattar, as well as Bangladeshi national, MD Alamgir, who is alleged to have had sexual relations with all individuals seen in the videos.
