Abdulla’s body to be brought back after autopsy, funeral today

Malé, Maldives – Body of Abdullah Rasheed, who died while in police custody after being arrested in connection with a drug case, will be brought to Maldives today for burial.

Abdulla Rasheed, 43 was arrested in the counter-drug operation from a café near the harbor of Hoandedhdhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll on October 25.

According to the family and witnesses, Abdulla Rasheed died following delayed treatment for chest pain after police arrested him during their anti-drug operation.

The family said Abdullah’s body will be brought to Malé at 1:30 pm today after the post-mortem as per the information they received from Maldives Police Service.

Abdullah’s funeral will be held at the Asahara Mosque after Maghrib prayers.

The Police Integrity Commission is investigating the case in which Abdullah died after suffering chest pain while being taken into custody during a drug operation. The body of the deceased was taken to India for post-mortem against the family’s will.
