Shiaau’s Murder: Investigation continues to establish motive

Malé, Maldives – Maldives Police Service has revealed that investigation of the murder of 22 year old Shiaau Mohamed Saeed who was found on August 6, 2022 is still ongoing as the motive of her murder has not been established.

The 22-year old from Fuvahmulah City was found decapitated and her limbs mutilated at H. Sheereenvilla, Malé City. 23 year old skater Ali Saahil was arrested from the crime scene and is being held in remand until the end of his trial.

Police revealed that the investigation into Shiaau’s death was not completed after they said on October 15 that they would file charges within two weeks after completing the investigation. Police had previously told that they had found out how he had killed Shiaau and had evidence to charge him with murder.

Police revealed that she had died following the injuries according to the preliminary post-mortem reports and also added that she was repeatedly attacked even after she passed away.

Local media sources have reported today that the investigation is continuing to obtain information from Shahil’s phone. Police revealed that they would use the information to find out the motive for murder.

It was also revealed that Shahil refused to open the phone and police had to send it abroad to retrieve the information and that they have now received the data.

Shiao’s body was reported to police by a couple who lived in the apartment with Shahil.
