Addu City, Maldives – A case of measles has been confirmed from Addu City, Maldives today.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced the outbreak today, detailing that the patient is a minor. Additional details revealed that an additional case of measles has also been identified in the city and that relevant contact tracing and testing efforts are underway. This patient is also a child, says HPA.

Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) is now in the process of identifying the cause of the infection, and providing vaccination for those who need it.

Symptoms of measles include:

  • Fever
  • Red rash on skin
  • cough
  • runny nose
  • watery eyes

Anyone with these symptoms are requested to contact a health care service provider as soon as possible.

According to HPA, as measles, for many years, had been eradicated from the country, even one confirmed case has to be considered as an outbreak.
