Police arrest migrant worker under suspicion of Dhangethi murder

Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Police Service (MPS) states that they have arrested a migrant worker earlier today under an arrest warrant on the suspicion of the ADh Dhangethi murder.

Local news Sun reports that the migrant worker is a caretaker of the elderly person who resides at the home searched earlier today by the police.

Police state that the home is within 100 meters of the abandoned house the victim’s body was found at.

The victim who has been identified as Dhangethi businessman Mahmood Abu Bakr was disposed in a water well at an abandoned house on the island. Islanders state that the victim’s body had signs of multiple stab wounds.

A special police team was dispatched to ADh. Dhangethi to retrieve the victim’s body from the well and conduct preliminary investigations. The islanders paid the final respect to Mahmood and the victim was buried on Friday.

Mahmood Abu Bakr is survived by a wife and four children.
